Our Special Education Department is designed to meet the needs of students who are eligible for special services. We become part of the process that develops a plan of education that meets the child’s unique needs. This plan is called an Individual Education Program. Students benefit from close attention given to the strengths and weaknesses while we work together to ensure a smoother transition into the regular education setting.
This department provides both Resource room and Counseling services (Speech, OT and PT providers are sent by the School District). Our Special Education Team includes certified Special Education teachers, Regular Education teachers and Counselors who are supported by qualified, trained Para-Professionals.
Regularly scheduled meetings are mandatory for all special education personnel. On a daily basis, the special education teacher meets with the classroom teacher to coordinate efforts on behalf of the student’s success in the classroom. Weekly meetings allow the team to address the progress students are making and assess the strategies implemented. Each year a 5-Day SHAPE seminar is attended by all members of the Special Education Team for intense staff training and research study. Staff development therefore, will include the presentation and study of accurate information concerning effective methodology.
