·         Regents and SAT Preparation

What we do:  Using SHAPE Regents Preparation Strategies, students do well on these exams and retain the information learned to benefit future college performance.  Students can earn scholarships by achieving higher SAT scores after careful and individualized SAT tutoring.  All Regents exams and SAT’s can be taken at Sappo School upon request.

·         Improved Study Skills (including organization, retention and retrieval skills)

What we do:  We use SHAPE Strategies to teach all grade levels.  Each student learns the specific strategies he or she needs to eventually become an independent student who can reach into their own bag of academic tools to learn most effectively.  Organization is developed through positivity, modeling, and repetition until this skill becomes habitual.  Strategies are used to form strong visual and associative memorization habits.  It’s all about changing the way the brain works and sees things! ·         Subject Support

What we do:  We introduce the subject in a student friendly way, using Mind Imprint (MI) Cards that reinforce the information being learned while strengthening the brain’s memory center.  Specialized Visualization Techniques are taught as students learn how to visualize properly for recall.  Word Association strategies are applied to lessons.  The student gains an understanding of the subject and how it applies to him or her and the world we live in.  This develops a lifelong grasp of the subject.

·         A Progressive Reading Program (Orton-Gillingham)

What we do:  After a careful assessment is done using the SRA (Shape’s Reading Assessment) we are able to establish a start point for lessons.  Missed concepts are identified with specificity. We use SHAPE’s Orton-Gillingham based reading program taught by trained and certified reading specialists.  The program is flawless as students learn to read phonetically.  Comprehension and writing skills are addressed with precision. Tracking and other reading related skills are enhanced using peer-reviewed methods that have proven successful over the decades.  We believe that anyone can learn to read, and learn to read well, if the teaching addresses the need.  (See SappoSchool.com on Dyslexia, and SHAPE Reading Assessment for more details)
